Drive, opening September 16th, centers on a stunt wheelman (Ryan Gosling) who moonlights as a getaway driver. His straight ahead and bleak existence takes a drastic turn when he falls in love with his neighbor (Carey Mulligan), a woman whose ex-convict husband (Oscar Isaac) returns home.
A life of crime, if films like Thief and Heat suggest, is only successful if you shoulder no entanglements, and unfortunately the driver’s (Gosling’s character has no name in the film) newfound love could cost him his life. Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) are the tough guys ready to take him down.
At the Cannes Film Festival, Ryan Gosling and director Nicolas Winding Refn (Valhalla Rising) discussed the intricate creative process behind Drive:
