Season two of Top Chef Just Desserts premieres August 24 (Bravo, 10 pm et/pt), and Gail Simmons recently sat down during the TCAs to talk about the new season, which also features returning head judge Johnny Iuzzini and fellow judges Hubert Keller and Dannielle Kyrillos.

Both Iuzzini and Simmons, who’s also a regular judge on Top Chef, are known for giving unflinching and frank advice to contestants.  “We are the taste buds of our viewers,” says Simmons.  “The viewers can’t taste the food. It’s only one of the only mediums, food television, where the viewer can’t be part of of the process.”
