Back in the mid 1990s, Robert Rodriguez inspired nascent filmmakers with his indie film El Mariachi and his book Rebel Without A Crew, and recently the Spy Kids filmmaker announced the creation of Quick Draw Productions.

“I just started a new company I announced at Comic-Con called Quick Draw Productions,” says Rodriguez.  “We have the financing capabilities to produce our own movies.  Right now, we still do distribution through a studio but if I have an idea I can greenlight it, we can pay for it, we can make the whole thing.  We’ll distribute it through the studios currently but eventually we’ll be able to directly distribute.  Because that is where it would go next.”

Rodriguez’s new film Spy Kids: All The Time In the World In 4D opens August 19th.  But why did his proposed features Red Sonja and Barbarella fall by the wayside?  Click on the media bar to hear Rodriguez explain why those two films just didn’t happen.
