Justin Timberlake hasn’t done an album since 2006’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, as the artist has devoted most of his creative time starring in movies. His latest effort, Friends With Benefits is his first studio lead role (I’m not counting Edison).
“As far as headlining a movie, I never have any desire to do anything than what is inspiring,” says Timberlake. “If that’s a supporting role in an interesting story then great. If that’s being able to write songs for Lil Wayne, then great. It could be anything. My choices really do come from a place of sincerity and generosity. And so I don’t really think beyond that, and that’s served me well.”
Click on the media bar below to hear Timberlake explain why he’s not influenced by people’s expectations (his Friends With Benefits co-star, Mila Kunis, is also heard in the clip).
Friends With Benefits, co-starring Woody Harrelson and Patricia Clarkson, opens Friday.
