
Although director J.J. Abrams’ love for such films as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. served as an influence for Super 8 (which is also produced by Steven Spielberg), the movie’s story actually originated from his own life.
“The thing about Super 8 is it was inspired initially by just the desire to go back in time and tell a story about being a kid and making those stupid movies on Super 8,” laughed Abrams. “They were not as good as you wanted to be then. That was the first thing, going back to that experience.”
