Jim Carrey, whose next film Mr. Popper’s Penguins opens June 17th, is focusing much of his energy on a world outside show business. The actor created the Better U Foundation back in 2005 with the goal of “cultivating a better universe.” On the artistic end, Carrey is also a serious painter (one of his paintings is featured in Mr. Popper’s Penguins).
“Well I have a lot of things going on,” said Carrey. “For a long time in my life I was harnessing it in one direction and it seemed to be a few years ago things were just kind of spilling over the edges that I couldn’t control it much anymore I kind of let it go wherever it goes. I do have philanthropic concerns and I try not to make it too loud.”

Carrey is currently working on a major piece at his New York studio. “It’s 16-feet tall and 12-feet wide; it’s a black light painting actually,” he added. “It’s definitely viewable in the daytime, it’s a normal painting but when you turn the black lights on, it really lights up and people come out of the dark. It’s kind of interesting.”
