
Sixty-three-year-old John Carpenter returns with The Ward, his first feature length film since his 2001 box-office misfire Ghost of Mars. The Ward centers on a institutionalized woman (Amber Heard) who, along with several other inmates, are being terrorized by what appears to be a ghost. During an interview to promote The Ward, Mr. Carpenter was asked why it took him a decade to return to the silver screen.
“I’ve been doing this for forty some odd years,” said Carpenter. “I’ve been doing it back to back to back. Not only sometimes writing it, but directing and doing the music. What you give up is your private life. You have no life. And I thought “I can’t do this anymore.’ It doesn’t help that Ghost of Mars tanked like the Titanic, bu you know…”
