J.J. Abrams, director of Star Trek and producer of several hit TV shows (Alias, Lost, Fringe), writes and directs Super 8, a picture about a group of kids in 1979 Ohio who witness a train crash while shooting with a Super 8 camera. As for the truly big J.J. Abrams question that has surfaced this week: Is Star Trek 2 still set for a May 2012 release? “I care much more that it be good than it be ready,” said Abrams. “We’re obviously doing everything we can to make sure that schedules don’t get screwed up, but I don’t think anyone wants a movie that’s on time that’s not worth your time.”
Speaking of “time,” Super 8, co-starring Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler, opens Friday.
