The second season of MasterChef begins on Monday (Fox, 8 pm et/pt), and all three judges  (Gordon Ramsay, Chef Graham Elliot, restaurateur Joe Bastianich) are back to find the best amateur cook in America. One hundred culinary dreamers, which include a police officer, a forklift operator, a classical pianist and even an NFL player (Jarvis Green) were flown to Los Angeles for a chance to win the coveted white apron and title of “Master Chef.”

Ramsay says the bar has been raised for season two of Masterchef: 

“MasterChef is an incredible journey,” says Ramsay.  “It’s almost like searching around every domestic kitchen across the States and sort of conjuring up all the sort of highlights of what goes on in a home on a normal basis, seven days a week and put them into an arena, and looking for the best mum, the best dad, the best son, the best daughter, and the passion is extraordinary.  It’s the discovery that I like more than anything.”

Gordon talks about the tenacity and determination of the domestic amateur cooks:
