In the Los Angeles set drama Beginners, Ewan McGregor plays Oliver, a guy whose latest romance (Melanie Laurent stars as Anna), fills him with memories of his late father (Christopher Plummer).  During his final years, Oliver’s dad divulged that he was gay, a revelation which takes our protagonist by surprise.  Animal actor Cosmo is Arthur, a Jack Russell Terrier who becomes Oliver’s loyal companion.

“It’s very much about our relationship with our parents,” says McGregor. “How that affects who we are, how we fall in love, being in love.  In this case, both the characters who are falling in love have a bit of baggage and they are reluctantly falling in love and find it very difficult to make it work and I think we all relate to that a little bit.”

On the very last day of filming, McGregor, who is an L.A. resident, decided to get his own dog.  Click on the media bar and listen to the actor talk about his new friend Sid.
