Since 500 Days of Summer is one cinema’s most evocative love letters to downtown Los Angeles (an area that I adore), Zooey Deschanel pretty much had me at hello.  Throw in her inspired rendition of “‘You Really Got a Hold On Me” as part of She & Him and you this writer is ready for all things Zooey.

With Fox’s upcoming series New Girl, Deschanel is Jess, a late twenties woman who breaks up with her boyfriend and moves in with three bachelors (Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans Jr.).

“It made me laugh,” says Deschanel about the teleplay. “It’s pretty rare I think that a script makes you laugh so I never really thought about doing a TV show before, being committed to a series.  (But) this was such a great script and really funny, so I said, ‘Okay, I will do it.’

Created by No Strings Attached screenwriter Liz Meriwether, the show debuts this fall on Fox (Tuesdays, 9 pm et/pt), with Glee serving as its lead-in.  Click on the media bar and listen to Deschanel describe Jess.
