PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES Lost amidst this summer’s glut of comic book films is the return of Disney’s most bankable adventurer.  Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. This time out, Sparrow has a new love interest (Penelope Cruz) and tangles with the feared Blackbeard (Ian McShane) as they search for the Fountain of Youth.  Geoffrey Rush also returns as Captain Hector Barbossa.

Before his prodigious run on the Pirates franchise, blockbuster hits were usually not associated with Johnny Depp.  Instead, the 47-year-old headlined such critically acclaimed (but little seen) fare as Dead Man, Ed Wood, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. “It’s not my fault,” cracked Depp during a Beverly Hills, Ca. press conference.  “I did my best, you know?  Even to the point of trying to get fired on the first one.  And they couldn’t bring themselves to do it.  No it’s kind of interesting to experience that kind of ride after, well essentially 20 years of enjoying a career based on failures.  And then suddenly something clicks.  The weird thing is I never changed a thing.  The process is still the process as it ever was.  The fact people decide to see a movie I was in was probably the most shocking thing I’ve ever been through.”

Johnny Depp is open to more Pirates adventures, even if producers have to “wheel” him in.  Click on the media bar and listen to him elaborate on the “possibilities” of Jack Sparrow.
