
Opening Friday, the comedy Jumping the Broom centers on two African-American families who try to coexist as they attend a weekend wedding at Martha’s Vineyard.
“I liked the script,” said Bassett, who co-stars in the film with Loretta Devine and Paula Patton. “I thought it could be something good. It could be delightful. It could remind me a little of that whole Waiting to Exhale or of How Stella Got Her Groove Back. How well it was received. How open, how beautiful it looked, how professional. Just beautiful and full of pride. I thought this had the potential of something of that ilk.”
