
The 3D animated film Rio, featuring voice actors Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, claimed the #1 spot at the box-office, grossing $40 million. Rio also holds the distinction of having the biggest box-office opening (domestically) this year. Coming in a distant second was Scream 4, with a take of $19.3 million. Plummeting in its second week of release was the James Franco/Danny McBride/Natalie Portman comedy Your Highness, which limped to 10th place and earned a meager $3.89 million (a 58% drop from its first week). Here’s a list of the top 10 films:
1. Rio - $40 million. The picture also made $53.9 million in foreign markets.
2. Scream 4 - $19.3 million. In comparison, Scream 3’s debuted at #1 back in 2000 and made $34.7 million.
3. Hop - $11.3 million.
4. Soul Surfer - $7.4 million.
5. Hanna - $7.3 million.
6. Arthur - $6.9 million.
7. Insidious - $6.86 million. The horror film, which stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, has made $36 million domestically, and the film’s budget was estimated at just $1 million!!
8. Source Code - $6.3 million.
9. The Conspirator - $3.9 million. Although the Robert Redford directed film played in just 707 theaters, the picture still took in more business than Your Highness.
10. Your Highness - $3.89 million.
