Cat Deeley has seen plenty over the last six seasons of hosting So You Think You Can Dance and this new crop of talent audition has been giving it their all she tells HollywoodOutbreak.com.
Deeley admits that although there are still an amount of delusional contestants, most of the dancers showing up know what is expected of them.
“We’re going into our eight season now and I think people are very aware of just how talented people need to be and what they need to bring to the competition,” Deeley points out. “In the earlier seasons people didn’t know what the show was and it wasn’t so defined and sometimes they thought it was like any other talent show. It’s about celebrating peoples’ amazing talent and passion and ability and I think people get that now.”
Still the transition in the Hip Hop contestants has been remarkable, Deeley says. And now those dancers are combining street with technique.
“I think that people that have tried out in previous seasons have been told to go away and told, ‘Look, you’re not ready for the show yet,’ ” she acknowledges. “Some that have auditioned before – (Executive Producer) NigelLythgoe) may have told them, ‘You need to get yourself into a ballroom class and take some lessons’ and some of them have. There are lots of Hip Hop dancers who have heeded Nigel’s advice, after all, it is constructive criticism. They put themselves through dance class and they improve themselves. It really is incredible that they put that much time and education into it.” (
So You Think You Can Dance kicks off its eighth season in May of this year.
