In Soul Surfer, country singer and former American Idol champ Carrie Underwood makes her big screen debut as youth leader Sarah Hill, a woman who helped surfer Bethany Hamilton (AnnaSophia Robb) deal with the devastating loss of her left arm from a shark attack. Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt also star as Hamilton’s parents.
“For me being in this film is all about the story,” said Underwood, who had her first surfing experience four years ago in Mexico. “But I always said if something came along and it was for the right reasons we could fit it into an already busy schedule. It just felt right. We got the script and it came together for me pretty quickly.”
