Jake Gyllenhaal, star of the new thriller Source Code, is dedicated to ensuring that children learn the values of nutrition and eating a healthy meal. During an interview to promote Source Code, the actor discussed his connection with the charitable organization, Edible Schoolyard.
“We’re trying basically to make it possible to have an edible garden in every public school in America, where kids can have a new relationship to nature, and to their food, and to their diet,” said Gyllenhaal. “Understanding where their food comes from. Kids can take classes in these gardens and learn mathematics by counting vegetables, engage in the world in a different way than we are used to in schools. Basically take a piece of concrete out and put a garden where children can explore and learn. I grew up around edible gardens all over the place and it’s changed my perspective on the world. And I think it can change the world.”
