Actor Robert De Niro plays a business mogul named Carl Van Loon in the drama Limitless, the story of a struggling writer (Bradley Cooper) whose life takes a dramatic turn for the better after he takes a super drug. During a press conference, De Niro answered a rather pointed question from a journalist who asked the actor why he took a role that may not have been too challenging.
“It’s not that it’s not challenging, it is,” said De Niro, who spent nine days shooting Limitless, which was penned by Leslie Dixon and directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist). “I enjoyed doing it. I wanted to work with Bradley and Neil. I liked one of Neil’s other films, so sometimes even though it’s not perfect, you do it to work with other people so you could work with them again, you establish a relationship. To me it was worth it, it was well written. Leslie did a really good job. It was good for me, and I put a lot of work into it.”
One role that should challenge De Niro is I Heard You Paint Houses, a project which reunites him with director Martin Scorsese and actor Joe Pesci. Click on the media bar and listen to De Niro talk about the film, which has been in development for several years.
