Director Sebastian Gutierrez has two films out today, Elektra Luxx, a flick which is now playing in select theaters, and Girl Walks Into A Bar, a picture which is currently streaming for free on YouTube.

“It’s like what if you made a movie and gave it away for free on the internet,” says Gutierrez about Girl Walks Into A Bar, which is sponsored by Lexus. “(So) you can tune into YouTube and watch a feature film for free.  And what I said to (the investors) is I just don’t want a camera pointed at people who are saying funny things.  I want a proper movie, with steadicam shots, with dolly shots, with good hair and makeup.  The film looks great and it’s a proper movie.  None of this is new, it’s like TV fifty years ago, you just get a sponsor to pay for the thing, you do it small enough, there are commercial breaks and then off you go.”

Girl Walks Into A Bar centers on a dentist (Zachary Quinto) who teams up with an assassin (Carla Gugino) to kill his wife, and along the way a collection of eccentric characters enter (and exit) the story.  Co-starring Danny DeVito, Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage), Rosario Dawson, Robert Forster and Josh Hartnett, the picture was shot on the Canon 7D.  Click on the media bar and listen to Gutierrez explain how David Lynch’s drama Inland Empire inspired him to direct Elektra Luxx (along with is predecessor, Women in Trouble) and Girl Walks Into A Bar.
