Mary Lynn Rajskub, who was so quirky and powerful as computer genius Chloe O’Brien on the series 24 gets to flex her comedy muscles on Raising Hope tonight (9:00 p.m. ET/PT, FOX).

Though it appears Rajskub was born to play serious roles, the actress tells HollywoodOutbreak.com that her roots were firmly planted in humor.

“Before I was on 24 I really only did comedies and I didn’t really even audition for any dramas before 24,” she points out. “So, getting back into it is sort of reminding people and myself, oh yeah, this is what I did before I became a dramatic actress.”

Rajskub is starring as a polygamist with four husbands, who marries cousin Mike (Skyler Stone).

“I show up in an RV,” she explains. “Mike comes to tell his family and come to find out he has Brother-Husbands. It’s a pretty subdued performance on my part because my lifestyle sort of speaks for itself.”

It turns out that Rajskub was a fan of Raising Hope before guest starring on the show. She didn’t get to work with Cloris Leachman, who is known to be a little wacky on the set, but the actress says that her good-natured spirit was all over the set.

“ You could feel her there in a lot of affectionate talking about her and her zany behavior,” she says.

On 24, Rajskub was the actor trying to ease the apprehensions of the guest stars. On Raising Hope, she was in the reverse position. And the actress knows all too well how frightening coming into an established show can be.

24 was the scariest show to come on as a guest star because it was such a well-oiled machine and it had such a level of intensity that I was always worried for the guest stars because you have no time to get into the pace of the show,” she acknowledges. “But, with Raising Hope the cool thing is a comedienne friend of mine, Paul F. Tompkins (a Brother-Husband) was one of my husbands friends and the other guys I’d just met were really funny and sweet. Skylar Stone is a comedian – and I know the creator of Raising Hope (Greg Garcia).”

It also helped to have a great cast to help her get comfortable, she says.

“Meeting Martha Plimpton, I had watched her when I was younger and she was always an inspiration to me and I felt very akin to her. So it was a very easy set to show up on.”

Rajskub also addressed those persistent rumors about a big screen version of 24. Though she’s not sure it’ll happen, the actress believes a movie is in order.

“Everybody asks me that. I get asked that at least every other day,” she stresses. “I hope that there is. I have not heard anything. I think that there should be. I’m not really sure if the powers that be are going to get it together and make it happen. We’ll see.”
