Carla Gugino (Californication, Watchmen) plays the titular character in Elektra Luxx, director Sebastian Gutierrez’s follow-up to his indie film, Women in Trouble. This time out, Elektra (Gugino) is trying to adjust to life as a retired porn star and a soon to be mom. Unfortunately, life just isn’t that simple, and Elektra has to pull off one more favor and seduce the fiancee of a flight attendant (Marley Shelton).
“One of the things I love about acting is you cannot do an accurate portrayal or truthful portrayal of a human being if you are judging them while you are playing them,” says Gugino, who also played Elektra Luxx in Women in Trouble. “So therefore, I feel that because of the characters I have played and will hopefully get to play, each time I get a sense of ‘Oh, so this is how this person sees their life and this is what they have gone through.’ And it does give me great empathy.”
Gugino also reunites with Watchmen director Zack Snyder for Sucker Punch, playing a woman named Madam Gorski. The actress and co-star Oscar Isaac also performed a rendition of the Roxy Music song “Love is the Drug,” which is featured on the soundtrack.
