Tim Dekay, who plays FBI agent Peter Burke on White Collar, has heard all sorts of theories about the music box on the show, which has remained a mystery until now. Fans have offered up ideas ranging from the box being filled with tightly wound bills equaling $1 million to the box being related to a Russian spy.
Certainly they’re logical conclusions, but Dekay tells HollywoodOutbreak.com that the mystery will be solved by the end of season two and that it will all make sense.
“The questions about the music box will all be answered completely,” Dekay promises. “But, just when you think that’s completely over, the last second of the final episode turns you right around and propels you right into what you’re sure is going to be the third season.”
Dekay says he didn’t know what the music box contained until it was in the script. He actually believed no one, not even the show’s writer, Jeff Eastin, knew what the secret was. Now everything is set to fall right into place.
“I thought, ‘Where is he taking us with a music box?’ ” Dekay questioned. “I had no idea and I thought Jeff just thought a music box sounds intriguing. But, he knew exactly where he was taking us - and where it takes us, I had no idea it would take us there. When it did it made sense. In an odd, mysterious, wonderful way, it makes sense. It would have to be like that.”
White Collar airs Tuesdays, 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network. The season finale is scheduled for March 8th.
