Jane Lynch plays Sue Sylvester, the meanest high school coach around on Glee (Tuesdays, 8:00 p.m. ET/PT FOX).  In the past she’s starred in a number of the Christopher Guest movies from Best in Show to For Your Consideration.

There is no new Guest movie in her future just yet, but the quote explains why she thinks his movies connect with audiences.

Do you have another Christopher Guest movie coming up?

“Not that I know of, but I would love that.”

What is it about those movies that connects with the audience?

“Well, I think what it is, is he always captures some substrata society that has its own hierarchy and its own self-importance. We laugh at that…we think we laugh at them, but we’re laughing at ourselves. Anytime you’re having a good gut laugh, you’re laughing at something deep inside yourself. It’s all of us trying to matter. All of the characters are trying to matter.”
