The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is politically correct to a fault, except when it comes to some nationalities under some circumstances.
“Lazy, feckless and flatulent,” was the description of a Mexican car by BBC’s Top Gear host Richard Hammond who went on to say that it was redolent of Mexican characteristics.
The Mexican ambassador asked for an apology (and an explanation) as to why the entire population of a friendly nation is fair game for ridicule.
The BBC gave an explanation of the humor (humour) to the ambassador, but not the apology, saying that “Our own comedians make jokes about the British being terrible cooks and terrible romantics, and we in turn make jokes about the Italians being disorganised and overdramatic, the French being arrogant, and the Germans being over-organised. Whilst it may appear offensive to those who have not watched the programme or who are unfamiliar with its humour, the executive producer has made it clear to the ambassador that that was absolutely not the show’s intention.”
Although the BBC is made up of feely-touchy, compassionate progressives, they are blind if they can’t see that lazy, feckless and flatulent is far worse than overdramatic, over-organized and cooking-challenged.
