Unsurprisingly, the big screen adaptation of the hugely successful comic book, The Green Hornet grabbed the top position in theaters over the weekend grossing an estimated $34 million.
The Dilemma, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James, landed in second place with an unimpressive $17.4 million take between Friday and Sunday. This is another disappointment for Universal, which has had a tough time lately connecting with audiences.
True Grit continues to perform well bringing in an additional estimated $11.2 million over the weekend. That brings the total box office to $126.4 million in just four weeks – all profit at this point too, considering its modest $38 million budget.
The King’s Speech, with a production cost of $15 million, took in an additional $9 million over the weekend bringing its total to $44.5 million. The reviews have been positive for the film’s stars, Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham-Carter, which has fuel its success at the box office and pushed it up five notches to fourth place, for what is an art-house pic.
Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman in what is sure to get her an Oscar nomination came in fifth. The flick brought in an additional $8.1 million, stuck firm to its fifth place position and pushed well past its $13 million budget with $72.9 mil to date.
Rounding out the top 10:
6. Little Fockers $7.1 million
7. TRON: Legacy $5.6 million
8. Yogi Bear $5.3 million
9. The Fighter $5.1 million
10. Season of the Witch $4.5 million
