Thanks for fixing it–but please realize that this kind of error, though it may seem tiny to you, causes a ton of problems for these patients. I can’t tell you how many times we have to deal with people who think these two are one and the same, often because of the use of the word “meth” to refer to methadone. Anyhow thanks for fixing it.

J. Miller is exactly right! This is preposterously poor reporting, and only serves to further the stigma and prejudice and ignorance that surround methadone treatment. There is no similarity between methamphetamine–a street drug–a stimulant cooked up in home labs–and methadone, a prescription pain medication also used to treat opiate addiction.

Does nobody on this site do their homework before posting an article? Brett Favre’s sister was not arrested in connection with a “methadone kitchen”. She was arrested in connection with a “METHAMPHETAMINE kitchen”! Methadone and methamphetamine has nothing incommon except for the first four letters in the name. Methadone is a pain killer that is sometimes also used to treat opiate addiction. Methamphetamine is an illegal drug that people use to get high and that can be made at home. It’s ignorant and unprofessional to mix up the two in an article that is posted for the public to read. It also does a great disservice to the millions of Americans who take methadone for chronic pain or to be able to get off drugs when people think that they are taking methamphetamine, thanks to articles such as this one.
