Gemma Arterton’s overlooked (and downright alluring performance) as a listless woman juggling three men in Tamara Drewe proved that she is more than just a pretty face, and the Stephen Frears directed film comes out on Blu-ray and DVD February 8th.  Based on the graphic novel by Posy Simmonds, the story centers on Tamara Drewe (Arterton), a former ugly duckling who, thanks to a little plastic surgery and years of development, is now an absolute stunner.  As she returns to the bucolic village of her childhood, Tamara arbitrarily beds a married writer (Roger Allam) and a high strung rock star (Dominic Cooper).  In the middle of her busy trysts lies her connection with Andy (Luke Evans), a hometown guy she previously shagged as a teenager.  Are any of these men the love of her life, or is Tamara just having fun?  With a complex person like Tamara, one never knows (fyi don’t expect a sense of closure with the movie).  Both the DVD and the Blu-ray versions contain commentary from Arterton and Evans, as well as two featurettes (The Making of Tamara Drewe and Reconstructing Tamara Drewe).  Commentary from Frears, who directed two of John Cusack’s strongest films (The Grifters, High Fidelity), would have been a plus, but one would assume he’s a big part of the two featurettes.  CLICK on the media bar and listen to GEMMA ARTERTON elaborate on how the graphic novel helped her prepare for TAMARA DREWE:
