Apparently what the BBC thought every women over 36 looks like to their precious primetime viewers. The photo is actually of a proud "Witch Doctor from Skenna River Indians" between 1900 and 1930.

An ‘employment tribunal’ found the BBC guilty of age discrimination.  Victimization, humiliation, you name it, Miriam O’Reilly apparently suffered from everything that Gen Zero could throw at her.

O’ Reilly was a Sunday morning TV host of Countryfile when bigger brains decided that the show should be moved in primetime and that the host should be a younger babe, so she was fired.

Incidentally, the BBC One controller kept the older male hosts on the show while two other older women were replaced with (guess who?) younger pretty things.

Well, O’Reilly is nothing if not a fighter and went to court saying that the BBC dumped her because people in high places believed that she was too old for evening TV.

Reilly said in her statement that she was threatened about her wrinkles and told she must use hair coloring with the usual insults and warnings.

Just leave the village and die in the forest for the good of the tribe mentality.

To be fair (sort of) to the other side, former BBC One controller Jay Hunt said at the tribunal that O’Reilly’s allegations were “entirely and categorically untrue” and were “profoundly distressing and utterly offensive.” O’Reilly was excised, he said only because she was not recognizable to a prime evening audience.

The good news is that Ms. O’Reilly will likely get a handsome settlement from her ageism ordeal.

“We accept the findings of the tribunal and would like to apologize to Miriam. We will be speaking to her,” a BBC spox said, also mentioning that they planned to implement new fairness guidelines now that they got their fingers burned.

“We would like to acknowledge the important contribution Miriam has made to the BBC over more than 20 years and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss working with her again in the future.”
