Opening in limited Friday, Barney’s Version is an adaptation of Mordecai Richler’s novel about a well to do and irascible TV producer named Barney Panofsky (Paul Giamatti) who has a lifelong love affair with his third wife, Miriam (Rosamund Pike).  Barney actually meets Miriam while getting married to his second wife (Minnie Driver), and he will do anything to win Miriam’s heart.  During a recent interview promoting Barney’s Version, a journalist asked Rosamund Pike why her character would fall for such a pessimistic and abrasive person like Barney, a guy who is kind to a select few. “I find it incredibly simple, so the question really baffles me,” said Pike, whose past credits include An Education and Made in Dagenham. “Barney is this sort of big liver, a bon viveur.  He might be irritating as hell on some levels but I think the pain, it’s sort of worth any momentary frustration.  His dreams, his aspirations are so huge.  If something goes wrong, he’s the guy who says ‘let’s move, let’s buy a villa in Lake Como and he’ll do it’….I think that’s very exciting.”  Below is a movie clip from Barney’s Version, as Barney’s best friend Boogie (Scott Speedman) helps his buddy get more information on Miriam.

Barney’s Version also stars Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight, Casino Jack) and Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek).
