Bob’s Burgers is an animated series about a family that owns a burger joint and they all work together in that business.
The show has been added to the FOX Animation Domination signature Sunday and it promises to be as smart as their other shows (The Simpsons, Family Guy), according to Eugene Mirman, who provides the voice of Gene, the middle child in the family.
“It’s 28-percent cynical,” Mirman laughs. “It’s actually kind of a warm-hearted, genuine show. The family is sort of sarcastic and teasing to each other, but I think in a very loving way.”
And though Mirman is playing a youngster, he uses his regular voice, which is deep…though the production tweaks it for broadcast.
“Gene sounds like a big, burly man, but they pitch it,” he explains. “I actually do this voice and they pitch it in post production to sound a little more childlike. The result is it sounds very natural.”
Unlike most animated productions, Bob’s Burgers brings the entire cast together for the voice over sessions, which means that the talent actually interacts, giving the series an edge. For Mirman, it’s an opportunity to bounce creative elements in his performance off other pros.
“We’ll do hours of stuff and then we’ll do lot of versions and then they edit it down,” he points out. “It’s kind of great because we’ll do a lot of stuff, both what they wrote and then improvised. The end product is after hours of recording.”
Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays, 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
