With Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) play 14th century Crusaders who transport a supposed witch (Claire Foy) to a remote monastery, where she will be confronted by monks who blame her for the Black Plague. “I’m a fan of movies that are scary and I always have been,” said Cage who also starred in the box-office disappointment The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. “I felt like it was time to try and do one myself and celebrate people like Christopher Lee and Vincent Price, people I grew up with and admired so much. I wanted to try my hand at it. That’s really what led me here.” Unfortunately, Season of the Witch is getting hammered by the critics (EW.com described the film as a “bad wisecracking medieval demonic possession movie”). Season of the Witch, which also stars Christopher Lee and is directed by Dominic Sena (he worked with Cage on Gone In 60 Seconds), is now playing nationwide.
