Academy Award-winning Director Blake Edwards has died. The legendary filmmaker reportedly succumb to complications from pneumonia, according to the New York Times.

Edwards is best known for the Pink Panther franchise, as well as the drama The Days of Wine and Roses, a moving story about the affects of alcoholism and recovery. The later film earned acting nominations for its stars, Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick and one of the many Oscar wins for Composer Henry Mancini.

Edwards was a staple in the movie biz for over 60 years, giving us a host of screwball comedies from Victor/Victoria and S.O.B, starring his wife, actress Julie Andrews to the mega hit 10, starring Dudley Moore and Bo Derek.

He even re-branded his Pink Panther comedies after the death of lead actor Peter Sellers for a whole new generation with Steve Martin in the role as the bungling Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

His dramatic efforts produced not just the Days of Wine and Roses, but also Breakfast at Tiffany’s, based on the Truman Capote novel, starring Audrey Hepburn.

He wed Andrews in 1969, a marriage that lasted 41 years, right up until his death Wednesday.

Blake Edwards was 88 years old.
