One would assume that an A-lister like Mark Wahlberg could easily get a boxing film like The Fighter off the ground, but the process actually took several years to achieve at its creative fruition.  So far it’s a happy ending for Wahlberg, as The Fighter is in the middle of its share of Oscar buzz and critical praise.  “It was just out of sheer desperation in getting the movie made,” said the actor, who grew close to boxer Micky Ward and his family during the making of the project.  “I had already promised Micky, Dicky, Alice, Charlene, everybody else involved that we were going to get this movie made. And it seemed at first glance, like it was a no-brainer.  Amazing parts, what a wonderful story, a really new and interesting world that you’re not familiar with, and it just wasn’t meant to be.  We just had to grab a hold of it and force it to happen with sheer will and determination, very much like Micky’s journey to winning the title.”   Click on the media bar and listen to Mark Wahlberg talk about staying in tiptop shape to play Micky Ward in the film.
