Actor Nicolas Cage, seen over the summer in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice with Jay Baruchel, says that working with friends on movie sets is extremely important, and it’s a lesson that he learned years ago from the President of The West Wing (or as this writer prefers, the star of Badlands). “I often quote Martin Sheen.  Before anybody became well known, I was good friends with Charlie and we would spend time together in Malibu and Martin Sheen came into the room and said `Hey all that really matters is did you like where you were and did you like the people you worked with,” said Cage who was promoting his upcoming movie Season of the Witch. “At the time I was like ‘Wow, how could that be?’  This was after he had a heart attack on Apocalypse Now at 36.  And I realized that he’s right.  So now I try to make movies with people I consider to be my friends.”  Season of the Witch, a picture that reunites Cage with Gone in 60 Seconds director Dominic Sena, focuses on two knights (Cage, Sons of Anarchy’s Ron Perlman) who are tasked with transporting a witch (Claire Foy) to an abbey.  Click on the media bar and listen to Nicolas Cage talk about how he compares his new film with the classic adventure film The Wages of Fear (Claire Foy’s voice is also in the clip).

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice was released this week on Blu-ray and DVD, and Season of the Witch heads to theaters January 7th.  If you haven’t seen The Wages of Fear, the picture is out on DVD and Blu-ray as part of the Criterion Collection, and it’s one of my favorite films (William Friedkin remade the story with his overlooked 1977 feature, Sorcerer).
