Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund in 'Tron: Legacy' (Disney Enterprises)
House actress Olivia Wilde lands her biggest film to date with Tron: Legacy, a sequel to the cult 1982 picture Tron. In the film, Wilde plays a warrior named Quorra, a woman who exists in a program created by videogame developer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). Garrett Hedlund co-stars as Flynn’s son Sam, who enters his dad’s digital world and tries to bring him back to reality. In a recent interview, Wilde talked about her appreciation for the original film. “I was really blown away by the risks they took in that movie,” said Wilde, who also stars with Russell Crowe in The Next Three Days. “For me, the original Tron is this weird experimental film that Disney agreed to pay for. I just can’t believe they let (director) Steven Lisberger make this crazy cool film that is completely out there and unique. Certainly nothing after has been like it. It’s very ambitious in the the questions that it asks and in the language it uses. Watch Tron now and think about using words like ‘bit’ and ‘program’ for Bruce (Boxleitner) and Jeff (Bridges), that was foreign to them. So they had to embrace this terminology and pretend they were these programmers who would understand this lingo and this world of the computer.” (Click on the media bar and listen to Olivia Wilde discuss the thematic differences between Tron and Tron: Legacy)
Tron: Legacy opens nationwide December 17th.
