Gig Young’s daughter, Jennifer Young, will receive her father’s Academy Award today after 25 years pursuing the statue.
Young has worked vigilantly to acquire her dad’s 1969 Oscar for his performance in the movie They Shoot Horses Don’t They.
At a luncheon at Spago Restaurant in Beverly Hills, Young will address why having the Oscar was so important to her and her father’s legacy as well as the reason why it took so long for the Academy to present it to her.
In fact, Young’s agent, Marty Baum took possession of the statue after the actor’s suicide in 1978. It became a legal matter in 1997 and eventually an agreement was reached where Jennifer Young would take ownership of the Award after Baum died. The statue was returned to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences upon Baum’s death on November 5th of this year and the Academy will present the Oscar to Young at the luncheon.
Young, who is a singer and author, will be joined by a group of Academy Award winners and personal friends of the actor including Shirley Jones, Renee Taylor, Joseph Balogna and Lanie Kazan.
Jennifer Young is currently in post-production on a documentary about her father that she produced.
The event begins 2:00 p.m. PT.
