Amy Adams has received two Oscar nods (Junebug, Doubt), and she may earn a third nomination for The Fighter, which has her playing Charlene, the spirited girlfriend of boxer Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg).  Directed by David O. Russell, The Fighter is filled with inspired performances, and the chemistry between Adams and Wahlberg simply, for lack of a better word, works.
“Mark has this great quality as an actor.  He was able to show that vulnerability in Micky,” said Adams, whose other credits include Julie & Julia and Leap Year. “A man who’s powerful and strong, yet is able to show tenderness and vulnerability.  That’s really sexy.”  To prepare for the role, Adams took a few boxing lessons to toughen herself up, as Charlene.  (Click on the media bar and listen to Amy Adams talk about boxing and getting her teeth knocked out by her own sister!!) 

The Fighter, co-starring Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, opens in limited release December 10th (wider release on December 17th).
