The Baldwin brothers are notoriously close, despite political and religious differences (brother Stephen is conservative and Christian basic) so when Billy Baldwin says he has advice for big brother Alec about marriage, you know it’s going to be serious and newsworthy.

And useful, since Billy’s been (happily he says) married for 20 years (to Chynna Phillips).  In Hollwood, today, amazing.

Well, while on Access Hollywood Live, Billy secretly confided to hosts Billy Bush and Kit Hoover (and four million viewers) that “My brother needs — he once referred to the woman that he needs, this was years ago — as Ted Koppel in a dress.”  Of course Alec is progressive and open-minded, but what Billy was referring to is more like a cerebral, un-Hollywood type of lady.

“I think that someone from investment banking or from the world of social justice, political advocacy, someone from Georgetown or Duke ” Baldwin said. “Some smart girl who is raised on the other side of the universe… just somebody who’s not Hollywood.”

You don’t need to be a wise, successful husband and caring brother to give that useful advice.
