Will Axel Foley be returning to the big screen in Beverly Hills Cop 4? It is definitely a possibility, according to director Brett Ratner. Ratner is currently working with Eddie Murphy on the action comedy, Tower Heist, which will be released in 2011.
MTV.com sat down with Ratner, who said that he and Murphy have had some discussions about bringing Axel Foley back for the forth time. “I am all over it,” said Ratner, who directed all of the Rush Hour comedy/action movies. When asked about his discussions with Murphy, Rather stated only, ”He’s sensitive about it.” A few years ago, Eddie Murphy admitted to MTV.com that he enjoyed making the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies, but did not care for Beverly Cop III.(Check out the video below)
When the first Beverly Hills Cop film was released in 1984, it was one of the funniest movies of its time, which still makes us laugh today. In 1987, Beverly Hills Cop II was released, and while it was not as funny as the first, it did have its moments. But the 1994 film, Beverly Cop III, was an utter disaster, lacking the comedy and charisma we were use to seeing from Eddie Murphy.
While we are huge fans of Eddie Murphy, we question if making another Beverly Hills Cop film is a good idea. In our opinion, the powers that be should leave well enough alone, and let us remember the hilarious Axel Foley and his “Mumford” High School attire from the first two films. As Axel always said, “Trust me!” Do you agree, or would you like to see Eddie Murphy reprise this character once again? Let us know!
