It’s been remade every which way (including the blaxploitation version as The Wiz) but Warner Brothers owns the rights to The Wizard of Oz and they’re apparently hellbent on making one of the last versions (the gay and 3-D versions are over the rainbow) of the thing.
Warners is reportedly in talks (as they say in pulpy publicity releases) with Robert Zemeckis to do the fourth or fifth attempt of OZ, with that successful (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it) 1939 script.
Now here’s were the plot thickens; Disney is reportedly rushing their own L. Frank Baum version with a working-titled, Oz: The Great And Powerful.
Sam Raimi is supposedly behind that Disney project while working on something else (World of Warcraft) for Warners.
Raimi and Disney allegedly want Robert Downey Jr. for the lead. Which would mean (?) that Downey will play Dorothy, and if so, would that count as the gay version of the 110-year old kid’s book?
