Community actor Joel McHale will host the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards, which takes place Saturday, February 26th at the Santa Monica beach.  IFC will air the awards that evening at 10 pm et/pt.  McHale, who recently finished shooting Spy Kids 4, starred last year opposite Matt Damon and Scott Bakula in the Steven Soderbergh film The Informant. “We’re so excited to have Joel on board as the host, and his quick wit, talent and charm makes him a perfect fit for our audiences,” said Film Independent Executive Director Dawn Hudson in a statement.  The actor’s wit was on display this morning, as he posted the following message on his Twitter account: “I don’t even care about the backlash I’ll get for saying this but I hate celery.  If I find it in my tuna fish it sends me into a blind rage.”  Nominees will be announced by Eva Mendes and Jeremy Renner November 30th at The London West Hollywood Hotel.
