It wasn’t a banner weekend for movies debuting on Friday.
The animated flick, Megamind retained its first place ranking this week with an additional estimated $30 million in revenue. This is Megamind’s second week in theaters and the pic has already amassed $89.7 million. It dropped only a slight 34.7-percent since its debut.
Unstoppable, the Denzel Washington runaway train actioner came in second in its first week out with $23.5 million. Not a bad showing, but certainly not near the dough generated by the animated feature.
Due Date, which debuted at number two last week, dropped 52.5-percent and landed in third place this week. The action-comedy, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Zach Galifianakis brought in an additional estimated $15.5 mil bring its total to $59 million in just two weeks. That means the film is closing in fast on its $65 mil production costs.
The big, aliens-taker-over-the-world movie, Skyline didn’t quite connect with moviegoers. Though it came in at fourth place between Friday and Sunday, Skyline only managed $11.6 million. Still, it has already recouped its $10 mil budget in its debut.
The Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton and Rachel McAdams comedy, Morning Glory landed in fifth place with a paltry $9.6 million generated at the box office. Not an impressive showing considering Morning Glory’s stars and production cost of $40 mil.
Rounding out the top 10:
6. For Colored Girls $6.7 million
7. Red $5.1 million
8. Paranormal Activity 2 $3 million
9. Saw 3D $2.7 million
10. Jackass 3-D $2.3 million
