Vince Vaughn told a radio station that he was “glad” (no pun) that producer-director Ron Howard decided to keep the “electric cars… are gay,” line in The Dilemma.
Dilemma star (and producer) Vince Vaughn spoke on Q100 The Bert Show yesterday about controversy over the line.
Universal Studios had pulled the TV trailer after criticism (first) from CNN’s Anderson Cooper, then the gay watchdog group GLAAD, and a crowd of other voices. By evening, news was that the scene might be excised from the movie itself.
Last week, Vaughn wrote a release defending the line in context to the film, character, setup. Hours later, Vaughn became a blog and media target where kinder epithets included stupid.
On Sunday, Howard wrote his own release justifying reasons for not censoring the film, stating that The Dilemma would premiere unedited.
“We’re not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings,” Vaughn said. “If there’s tensions there, ultimately, it brings us together, it makes us more comfortable.”
