George HickenlooperDirector George Hickenlooper passed away today at the age of 47.  The cause of death is unknown at this time. Hickenlooper directed movies such as Factory Girl starring Sienna Miller, and The Man from Elysian Fields starring Andy Garcia and Mick Jagger. His latest film, Casino Jack, starring Kevin Spacey, which is about the controversial Washington D.C. lobbyist Jack Abramoff, will be in theatres in December.
 
Hickenlooper may be best known for his documentary work, such as the Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, which was released in 1991. The film explored the problematic making of France Ford Coppola’s film, Apocalypse Now.  He also helmed the documentary, Mayor of the Sunset Strip, which was about Rodney Bingenheimer, an iconic Los Angeles music figure.
 
Hickenlooper leaves his son, Charles.  We spoke to Hickenlooper on a few occasions and found  him to be a nice guy and a good filmmaker. His good work will live on for future generations to appreciate.
