When you sign onto a movie that’s named Saw 3D, you pretty much know you can expect plenty of blood and guts.
Betsy Russell, who stars as Jill, the ex-wife of the killer mastermind, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) in the flick, knew the score going in, but she says that doesn’t mean she has to like it. Though she has an outrageous anecdote or two to share about severed limbs and blood baths.
“In Saw I’ve been covered in blood,” she acknowledges. “When I lost the baby in Saw IV, that definitely was not comical. They had to cut most of the blood out of that because it was too intense and too real. I was gushing blood and they cut it all out and made it a few drips. I’ve had miscarriages so it was emotional for me and I was crying for three days doing it.”
Yet there have also been lighter moments on the set that have actually made her laugh.
“When I was in the makeup room on the set of Saw somebody came in and said, ‘Hey, has anybody seen a missing leg? We need it for the next scene,’ ” Russell recalls adding, “I guess you could find comical moments, but I don’t. I do think it’s interesting.”
Audiences appear to agree. The Saw franchise, though coming to a close with Saw 3D, is still as popular with the diehard fans as ever.
Saw 3D opens today.
