Actress Carey Mulligan will receive the Breakthrough Performance Award at the 22nd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival for her work in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and Never Let Me Go.  Mulligan, who received a Best Actress Oscar nod for her work in An Education, will receive the honor at an Awards Gala hosted by Entertainment Tonight’s Mary Hart January 8th at the Palm Springs Convention Center.  “Carey Mulligan is an actress of extraordinary talent and versatility,” said Film Festival Chairman Harold Matzner in a statement.  “In her most recent performances as the estranged daughter of Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps to Never Let Me Go where her character learns that life isn’t always what it seems, she brings uncommon vision and depth to her art.”  Previous Breakthrough Performance Award honorees include Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Hudson, Freida Pinto, Felicity Huffman, Mariah Carey, and Jeremy Renner.  The Palm Springs International Film Festival takes place January 6-17th.
