Indie low-budget filmmaker, Roger Corman gave an impressive list of fine directors and actors their start in the biz, including Martin Scorsese, James Cameron and Jack Nicholson.

Before Ron Howard became a big, famous director with films like Apollo 13, he was a child actor, who knew he wanted to do more on a film set than act. So he turned to Corman for a chance to take the reigns of his own movie. In exchange for appearing in Eat My Dust (as film lore has it), Howard got the chance to direct Grand Theft Auto and like all Corman graduates, he jumpstarted his moviemaking career.

Now Corman tells us his student is considering remaking one of his more successful films – in fact the pic Howard starred in, Eat My Dust.

“It was a car chase picture he did for us early on,” Corman recalls. “We’re on good relationships and it’s very pleasant.”

But, it’s a safe bet the Howard remake will have a considerably bigger budget.
