Robert De Niro (Paramount Studios)

Actor Robert De Niro is producing a new TV show he’s calling Rookies.  Guess what it’s about?  Not first year baseball players.  And, it has nothing to do with the mafia either.  All about six cops just out of the academy who get sent into the most hellish situations that crime writer Richard Price can imagine.

Price has a long resume in both book fiction and film and he’s also worked with De Niro before when they made Mad Dog & Glory.

Rookies is intended to be streetwise, aggressive, maybe more violent than CBS‘ other successful crime shows.  Just what they want.
