A-TRAK at the DJ HERO 2 event

I’m not a DJ, but in my dreams I rock the perfect street wear, have a turntable, a boatload of record crates, and am scratching and mixing my favorite hip-hop tunes from yesteryear as a bevy of hipsters bob their heads (and hopefully rock their hips) back and forth.  Although that fantasy will never happen, I had the chance to interview A-Trak at a DJ Hero 2 event held last Thursday at the Hollywood nightspot My Studio.  “On the musical selection level there’s definitely a difference with the new game where they made it more contemporary, and got more of an electronic presence also,” said A-Trak about DJ Hero 2, which comes out October 19th.  ” I think the first game was more kind of across the board, a lot of older kind of classics and like a mixed bag on the genre level, a lot of mash-ups with rock stuff. The new game has a lot more chart topping hits, more dance records, more electronic stuff, and hip-hop too.  It seems more focused which I think is more in line with what DJs are playing.”  Other DJs who worked on the game (which features 83 tracks) include DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, and RZA.  Click on the media bar to hear A-Trak talk about the tracks he worked on for DJ Hero 2.
