So which actress has the best shot at reaching the creative heights achieved by fellow Brits Kate Winslet and Kate Beckinsale?  If you’ve seen Gemma Arterton in the high profile flicks Quantum of Solace, Clash of the Titans, or  Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, you might wonder if there is a sea of depth behind that pretty face.  The answer is, if you don’t already now, a resounding yes, thanks to her magnetic and enigmatic performance in the Stephen Frears directed drama Tamara Drewe (opening in limited release Friday).  Once an awkward and unattractive teenager, Tamara (Arterton) is now a fetching young lass thanks to a nose procedure, and she has several men in her sleepy town (as well as a narcissistic rocker) caught under her spell.  Arterton herself has enchanted Hollywood producers and filmmakers, as her rise up the showbiz ranks can almost be described as meteoric.  The 24-year-old, who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, has designs on directing theater, but her movie dance card these days is pretty filled.  “It blows my mind that people want to employ me,” laughs Arterton. “I think it will always blow my mind.  It’s very bizarre and I’m aware of the fact that it doesn’t happen to many people and I’m also aware of the fact that it doesn’t happen to the right people as well.” Click on the media bar and listen to Gemma discuss the last three years of her acting journey.
